Fall Cattle Drive

Graciously hosted by Sam Kayser of Ellensburg. Sam, champion steer roper, and his family have been in the cattle business all their lives and summer their cows and calves in the Teanaway Valley just below our camp. Riding is a real pleasure in the Valley, highlighted with the beginning of the fall colors.

This herd of cows and calves start to come out of the high country in anticipation of the upcoming move to their wintering grounds. The challenge is to gather them up and "push" them back to higher meadows where they are supposed to stay. You will assist Sam's experienced  wranglers as they work the herd back into the high country.
Our famous Dutch oven cooking and evening campfire highlight this trip. We set up camp at the corrals where we will ride from each day.

Arrive Friday evening for a fire side visit with snacks and refreshments (Cle Elum is a great place for dinner before coming up). Your tent will be ready. Bring a good sleeping bag and pad.  Evenings and mornings can be crisp. Each morning enjoy a hearty breakfast and cowboy coffee while your horse is saddled. Then head out to gather the herd. The Day Rides include lunch. While out on the ride, our cook spends the day preparing a delicious Dutch oven dinner with all the trimmings. Fireside music, cowboy poetry, conversations of the days events around the campfire and lots of laughter! Then the best nights sleep you've ever had before we get up and do it again!
